French Chateau Antique 18th c.Tapestry Pillow (#1057)
This antique chateau fragment was from a large wall hung tapestry dating from the early 1700s in France. The warp is linen, and the weft yarns of wool and silk comprise the botanical design of flowers and foliage against sepia brown background. It has been repaired through the centuries, as these wall tapestries always were. Framing the tapestry fragment is new paisley brocade in gold and bronze colored threads. The tapestry is stabilized and stitched to the new front fabric with a diamond and dot jacquard. Fancy bobble trim adds more luxury. The pillow back is new slub silky rayon/polyester fabric. Pillow insert included. This pillow is one of a kind. The last photo is an antique post card photo showing French Aubusson tapestry weavers sitting at their looms hand weaving these huge wall tapestries from which the fragments come that I use in my tapestry pillows. It was hard work!
