The center panel of this lovely pillow is a charming rare antique toile fabric that was made in France in the 1880s. It depicts cherub angels playfully blowing bubbles amongst birds, flower wreaths and vines. As with all of my antique fabrics, I stabilized this piece for today's use with interfacing and lining. Above and below the red toile is cotton black and white check fabric trimmed with black mini pom pom trim which frames the antique toile. The pillow cover back has an envelope closure to easily remove the 14" x 14" new polyfill insert, which is included.
This is a gorgeous and rare piece of antique French toile due to its retention of the red color. The fabric was previously stitched into something large, possible a pelmut, or bed curtain, however stored away from light for many years. The piece I acquired was big enough for two pillows. The other one is shown in the last photo with one of the white pillows with a French design that I have for sale. They make a lovely grouping together.
