Stunning Neoclassical Antique French Toile Pillow (#1320)
This pillow is made with antique French toile fabric, C.1860. The colors are vibrant and stunning, which is not easy to find in 150 year old textiles. It must have been stored away in an attic of a chateau for many decades. The panel here depicts classical elements of neoclassic design popular in the 19th century Victorian era. Images show Greek keys, goddess busts, a cherub, arched grape arbor, and draped fabric swags in colors of Prussian blue, greys and white. Framing the toile is French braid trim in coordinating blues. All are sewn onto antique hand loomed French linen produced as part of the 19th century cottage industry, C.1900. The last photo shows two other small pillows grouped with this one on a chair. These small accent pillows look charming together on a chair, sofa or bed. Tres' Chic'! One of a kind, only one available.
